Kangra Countryside Inn

Short Stay - Kangra (Himachal Pradesh)

About THE Kangra Countryside Inn

Perfectly hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city life, with the exotic view of the mesmerising snow capped mountains and the constant sound of the stream of fresh water flowing by, the property hosts a beautiful 115 year old mudhouse built during the British era.

The house still sees mud flooring and the mud walls with wood paneling, giving it a rustic look in sync with the local village architecture. The views are amazing – one can see a 180 degree view of the breathtaking snow capped Dhauladhar ranges standing behind the valley; the meadows look like a Van Gogh painting, with different hues of shrubbery and grass, and one can choose to indulge in the number of trails that are waiting to be explored. There is also a stream right next to the house for those who enjoy spending time by the water.

The property owners are thoughtful and are deeply involved in restoring the property and starting an organic farm to try and get “off the grid” by the next decade. The property is pet friendly and has two labradors and one cat as permanent residents.

For WHOM?

This accommodation is not for luxury seekers, or for people who need things to do, see and visit when they are out for a holiday. It is designed for people who want to just relax, let go and take in the charm of the place itself. It is ideal for hikers and trekkers, nature lovers, bibliophiles, photographers, etc., who would find the property rich with activities if one has a keen eye for the same.

WHAT TO EAT

The hosts offer simple home-cooked vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, which need to be pre-ordered (there are no menus as the property promotes simple village life where there is only one other person to help with cooking and cleaning).

If one has any vegetable or chicken/meat preference, they can check in advance with the hosts and they would be willing to prepare meals according to the guest’s taste and choice.

WHAT TO DO

There are a lot of activities possible here besides doing nothing by the property like – cycling tours, visiting a Kangra tea factory and estate, McLeodganj and Dharamshala sightseeing, guided trekking to Triund or Naddi, photography workshops, Kangra train rides, day trip to Andretta pottery village, paragliding courses, curated Tibetan experiences and a traditional Himachali dham meal.

ABOUT THE PLACE

The accommodation has three rooms. There is a family room that can accommodate four people. An attic upstairs can accommodate more people. And there are two double rooms. An extra mattress is available with prior notice.

There are no attached bathrooms since the house is over 115 years old and the hosts have tried to retain the original structure as much as they could. There is a western style WC, an Indian toilet and a bamboo bathroom, with a small geyser for bucket baths, and another bathroom with a hot shower and a WC.

HOW TO REACH?

The accommodation is located outside Dharamsala. Accurate details will be given at the time of confirmation.
