About GHATS GREEN RETREAT

Set amidst sylvan surroundings and lush greenery over 150 acres, this 70+ year old heritage estate bungalow promises unpolluted and rustic countryside living with its slow ambling pace. The property is an authentic and enchanting boutique stay, in close proximity to the origin of one of the majestic rivers of Kerala, sheltered by rubber trees, various spice trees, and indigenous plants.

The property falls under the Western Ghats of Sahyadri Mountain ranges, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the eight hotspots of biological diversity of the world. The hosts ensure that all the local communities benefit socially, culturally, economically and environmentally from their guest visits, it is a promise that they seek to keep.

WHAT TO EAT

A variety of typical Kerala delicacies and other Indian dishes are served. The spices and vegetables used are organically grown on the estate. The fresh filter coffee served from the estate’s own plantations is the perfect brew. The water comes from natural springs in the mountains, the drinking water is also filtered.

WHAT TO DO

The hosts offer the opportunity for a plantation and spice tour, giving you a glimpse into the different aspects of cultivation of rubber, coffee, vanilla, and spices like cardamom and pepper. It is also possible to mingle with the locals, facilitated by the hosts.

You can bathe in natural pools created by mountain streams that pass through the property, as well as nature walks on the several trails available. Additionally, you can explore a hill station nearby, where there are options to trek, paraglide and rock climb. There are also waterfalls close by where you get spectacular sunsets.

ABOUT THE PLACE

The accommodation has eight tastefully furnished, spacious rooms, that can accommodate 2 or 3 guests each. Four rooms are in the main house, while two are located in a house in the garden. Anoher two rooms are located a short walk away in the woods. All rooms come with attached bathrooms, western toilets and solar-powered hot water (there are geysers as a backup for cloudy). The property is open all year round.
